Rubeus

Rubeus Hagrid was a character in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. His mother was a giant, and his father was a human wizard. He was expelled from Hogwarts when it was believed that his pet acromantula was responsible for the deaths of students, who were actually killed when Tom Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets. He was not allowed to practice magic, but he occasionally did anyway. Hagrid later became gamekeeper at Hogwarts, and he brought Harry Potter to the Dursley's house after Lily & James Potter were killed. He was also chosen to tell Harry that he was a wizard and help him get ready for his first year at Hogwarts. A few years later he was made a professor and he taught Care of Magical Creatures. After Voldemort came back, Dumbledore sent Hagrid as an envoy to the giants, hoping to prevent them from joining Voldemort's army. Hagrid failed, but he brought home his half brother, Grawp, who he kept hidden in the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid went into hiding with Grawp during the Second Wizarding War, but returned for the Battle of Hogwarts. During the battle, he was captured by Death Eaters. Hagrid was still teaching at Hogwarts when Harry Potter's children attended the school.

Crimson Rubeus was a Sailor Moon Character, and was a villain of the Black Moon Clan.

Rubeus is the Latin word for 'Red'. It does not appear in SSA's name database, making it a very rare name. Since the character was mainly called Hagrid, it's also a name that doesn't scream 'Harry Potter'.

Alice

Alice was the main protagonist from the Resident Evil movie franchise. She was a security operative working for the Umbrella corporation. After Umbrella creates a zombie apocalypse, she becomes the enemy of the corporation.

In Star Trek: Voyager, Tom Paris discovers an alien shuttle craft with an A.I. that he called Alice, after a girl he chased while a student at Starfleet Academy. Tom was able to interface with the ship through a neurogenic interface, and gradually, the ship began to control him.

In the original Star Trek television series, notorious con artist Harry Mudd created a series of android women that he called the Alice series.

In the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood, Alice Carter was the daughter of Captain Jack Harkness. Jack used her son, Steven, to reverse a signal being sent through the children of Earth by the 456. The process stopped the 456, but resulted in Steven's death.

Ion

In physics, an ion is an atom or molecule that has a net positive or negative electrical charge due to losing or gaining one or more electrons.

In the D.C. Comics universe, Ion was created from the Green wavelength of the emotional spectrum, and was kept secret for eons. It gave the Green Lantern corps a portion of it's power. Ion was set free when Hal Jordan destroyed the Central Battery, and it chose Kyle Rayner as it's host.

Ion was also a character in the Marvel Comics Universe, where Ion was a super villain.  Ion was the alias of Voletta Todd, a nuclear physicist who was turned into a cloud of ionized gas during an experiment gone wrong.

Ion was also the name of a short lived Japanese Manga published in 1997.

Since Ion is only one letter off from Ian, I think it would work as a first name. In 2011, 5 boys were named Ion.

Luna

Luna is most recognizable from the Harry Potter series. Luna's father was the editor of the newspaper The Quibbler, which often espoused conspiracy theories and unconventional ideas. Her mother died when she was 9, while experimenting with spells. Luna was a member of Dumbledore's Army, and she was a Ravenclaw. Luna was as unconventional as her parents, and was described by J.K. Rowling as someone who would 'believe 10 impossible things before breakfast.'

Aslan was a character in C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia. Aslan was the only character to appear in all seven of the Narnia books. He was a wise and magical leader, often considered to represent Christ. In The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Aslan was killed by the White Witch in exchange for Edmund's life. After he was killed, his body disappeared, and soon after he reappeared, alive. He explains that it was because he offered his life in return for Edmund's, invoking a deeper magic.

Amaterasu

Amaterasu is a goddess of the Sun in the Japanese Shinto religion.

Amaterasu was a Goa'uld system lord in the television series Stargate SG-1. She was a minor character and only appeared in the episode New Order, parts 1 and 2, and was mentioned in two other episodes.

Amaterasu also appears in a self named manga series and others, including The Five Star Stories, and 666 Satan
.

Amaterasu is quite an unwieldly name, but it is very unique and beautiful. I could see Amy or Sue as nicknames, but they are so pedestrian compared to Amaterasu, that they almost detract from it. Perhaps she's best left to the middle spot.

Andromeda

Andromeda was the first geeky name that I fell in love with. Andromeda is a name from Greek mythology, so it has some very non-geeky roots. Andromeda was a princess that was rescued by Perseus. The story should be familiar to anyone who has seen either of the Clash of the Titans films.

Andromeda is both a constellation and a galaxy, making her a fitting name for star-gazing parents.

For Sci-Fi fans, there is the Andromeda television series that starred Kevin Sorbo. In that series, Andromeda was the ship, and the A.I., nicknamed Rommie, that controlled it. The Andromeda Strain was a novel by Michael Crichton that was later adapted into a film.

For Fantasy fans, Andromeda "Dromeda" Tonks (nee Black) was a character in the Harry Potter series. She was the mother of Nymphadora Tonks and the sister of Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange.

Andromeda is a popular name in comic books. She is a minor character in the Marvel Universe. Andromeda was the code name of Laurel Gand in the D.C. Comics Universe as well. In Manga, Andromeda Shun is a character in the Saint Seiya franchise.

In 2011, 31 girls were named Andromeda. The name is easily shortened to 'Andie' or as in the t.v. series, 'Rommie'.
