Hawking fits in well with the current surname trend, and can be shortened to the very cool nickname, "Hawk". For parents in love with the sound of Hawk... why not add a few letters for a more brainy formal name?

  1. Wow, never would have thought of this as a first name ... but you're right! Boys are called Edison and boys and girls Tesla, so why not Hawking?

  2. Funny that it doesn't appear in the SSA's database, because I know one boy whose first name is Hawking--my son, born in 2007.

  3. In order to appear in the database, at least 5 children have to be given the name. So your Hawking is one of very few!
